During the year 2018 the Romanian Section had a lot of activities dedicated to new music under the ISCM umbrella. Every month we organized two concerts dedicated to composers of all generation such as composers portraits, or recitals of several ensembles such as String Quartet “Gaudeamus”,Trio Contraste, SonoMania, Archaeus, Traiect etc. We also organized performances with live electronics, video and dance. In November, the XIV th Edition of the Festival MERIDIAN took place in Bucharest. It was an edition in which we expanded the artistic area by including more diverse concerts, from modern classical jazz to new complex performances. The edition was more interactive and closer to the young public, from different area of concern. The festival had the title “Confluences”. The agenda included 28 performances in 7 days in very different venues. Most of the events were reviewed briefly by conferences having as general subject Contemporary Art from all over the world. The public started to be very interested in the music of our time. The concerts were recorded and broadcast in the public radio on special shows.
The Romanian Section ISCM organized 12 concerts in 2017, one per month, dedicated to Romanian contemporary music in dialogue with international works. The performers included in the concerts belong to several generations. Also we co-organized 3 concerts in collaboration with the ISCM Israel Section and German Section. During the month of November we organized the XIII edition of the MERIDIAN FESTIVAL. The Festival took place between 6 -12 November 2017 and included 20 concerts, recitals and multi-media performances.
Our organisation SNR-SIMC accomplished a series of activities over the year 2016, most of them concentrating on the continuation of the annual MERIDIAN International Festival who reached the 21st edition. This festival reunites 22 events over a period of seven days, featuring composers from Romania and all over the world. The concerts are nationally advertised and Radio recorded and broadcast. Commissions have been made for this festival to several composers. We ensured collaboration with members of other ISCM organisations. Performers from abroad were invited to present Romanian or international works, some of them being world premieres. We have been in contact with the ISCM-WMD organisation committee in order to promote Romanian music at this festival. We have advertised and selected works to be sent to the ISCM-WMD committee.
In 2015, ISCM’s Romanian Section continued to promote New Music in Romania throughout the Meridian Festival and radio and television broadcasts. The main musical event organized by the SNR-SIMC (The Romanian Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music) has been, in this period of time, the ”MERIDIAN, Zilele SNR-SIMC” International Festival.
The festival roster included chamber concerts, recitals, the launching of a music and scores book, contemporary music by famous artists and ensembles, from Romania and abroad. Noteworthy composers were present in Bucharest on this occasion – either as guests of the Festival, or being featured in its programming – , hailing from various countries: Germany, Slovenia, Israel, Ukraine, Greece, etc.
The Cantacuzino Palace Hall, the George Enescu Hall and the Opera Studio of the National University of Music in Bucharest were abuzz, in early December, to the sound of contemporary music as part of a highly prestigious and established musical event on the Romanian and international music stage.
